Sporting's Caneira will be out until January

Sporting most valuable defensive playe, Marco Caneira, will only be out until January with a leg injury suffered in the Champions League against Italian club Inter.

As we know, the 27-year-old player took a heavy blow to the right leg, which was initially thought to be a fractured tibia but has been confirmed as just heavy bruising.

Sporting surgeon Gomes Pereira told O Jogo: "In the game against Inter Caneira suffered a violent blow to the right tibia, which caused him to be substituted.

"I can say that the following examinations moved us away from the initial fear that he had fractured his leg, although we predict that he will need at least three weeks to recover."

In fact, with the upcoming winter break this means Caneira will not play professional football until early 2007.

It's important to mention that his replacement that day, Abel, was also injured later on although the slight tear to the left thigh muscle is not thought to be that bad.
